My name is Linh Do, a multimedia designer based in Toronto, Canada. I specialize in illustration, animation, branding and interface design. I believe that good design is not only about how a piece looks. It tells stories.

PHANTASME

In collaboration with Marc de Pape and Elizabeth Coleman.
What is Phantasme: An app that answered back to questions of death in the digital age while considering personal data gathering and life narratives, as well as digital artifact curation and archival practices. I based the ideation on the magical, immediate and highly intimate properties of sound (namely the voice).
How it works: PhantasMe operates on on the notion of lifelong data collection practices carried out by the individual as well as blood and non-blood relatives/ loved ones. Over a lifetime, audio content is gathered through “calm recording” practices. Once the audio is acquired, it is stored in a secured account in the Cloud and archived for future generations. PhatasMe, as a digital ceremony acts as a crafted ancestral artifact, which effectively passes down rich and significant information from the deceased to future generations.
Other concepts explored in the PhantasMe development: digital artifacts, digital ceremony, vocal/auditory propriety rights, memory in the digital age, personal and familiar narratives
UI Design
CASE STUDY
We did sample research on personal life of our group member Marc de Pape through interviewing his family and friends. User can navigate through Marc's story from the (subjective) personal data he left on the internet (social media, personal website...), or listening to the (subjective) stories people talking about Marc. The research shows the importance of audio and its emotional effect, as well as the enormous amount of data one can collect within a short period of time.
